First thing you need to do is get coupons. So where do you get coupons:
  • Newspaper: This is where I get the majority of my coupons. Shop around for a great rate. Call your local Newspaper company to see what they will offer for multiples.  Go here for a Great Rate for the Utah papers: Utah Papers subscriptions
  • Printable: There are a lot of great sites that you can print coupons from. Most of them allow you to print the coupon twice from each computer. In my home we have 3 computers. So I am able to print 6 coupons, 2 from each computer. You will have to install a coupon printer in order to print the coupons. Make sure you do this or you will not be able to print them. Also please do not photo copy and coupons printed from your printer . This is just wrong and will take away some great deals that we all can get with printable coupons. THANKS!!
  • Tear Pad: These are coupons found in the store that you tear off of a pad. Usually they are found on a display or near a display. Some times you can even find Rebates in a tear pad form. Just keep your eye out.
  • Blinky: These coupons are found in the store. They come out of a machine that hangs off the shelves. They usually have a blinky light on them. These are coupons and can be put in your coupon binder. To use when the item is on sale.
  • Peelies: These are coupons that are found right on the item. You peel them off and use them at the store, the day you purchased them. Whenever there is a great sale on an item I check to see if they have peelies. It Never hurts to check!
  • The Manufacturer: Many companies will send you coupons via email or mail just for telling them about there products. It can be a complaint or a compliment on the product. They like it when consumers call them and give them feed back so they reward you for doing so. You can also get coupons in the mail and email just for signing up on there website for newsletters and mailing lists.
The Second thing is a way to store your coupons:
I use a coupon Binder. It is a 3 inch binder that zips up. You can buy them at Walmart , Shopko , Kmart, Target, etc. Just find one that suits your needs. I recommend one that zips up just in case it’s dropped. Then I add tab deviders and 3 pocket photo holders and 9 pocket baseball card sleeves. What are these for you say.  have two sections in my biner
  1. Store section: This section I put a divider for every store that I shop at. Then behind the divider is a 3 pocket photo holder. One pocket is for my shopping list. The second one is for my rain checks. The last one is for my Catalinas. This way I know were everything is. Then behind that is one 9 pocket baseball card holder. In this I put my coupons I plan to use at that store that day. I like to have everything organized before I go to the store.
  2. Coupon Section:This section holds all my coupons. I have 15 catagories each with a tab divider. Then behind the divider I have 9 pocket baseball sleeves. Each sleeve is a subcatagorie.  This is how I set this section up:
  • Baby (3 pages): Food, Diapers, personal hygiene for baby.
  • Breads/Cereals (5 pages): 2-Cereal , breakfast foods , rice , pasta , bread.
  • Cleaners (8 pages): Floor cleaners, dish cleaners , 2 laundry cleaners , standard cleaners , bathroom cleaners, 2 airfreshiners.
  • Dairy (5pages): Cheese, Butter, oil, yogurt , misc. dairy.
  • Dessert (8 pages):  Cookies, frozen desserts, cake and brownie mixes, fruits and jello and pudding, two drinks, candy, baking goods.
  • Meat (6 pages): Fresh or frozen Poultry, lunch meat, breakfast meats, misc meats, Seasonings, Sauces.
  • Medicine (8 pages): 2 cold and allergy, pain relievers, first aid, 2 stomach aids, vitamins , 1-2 misc medicines.
  • Paper Goods (4 pages): Facial tissue, Garbage bags/foils/wraps/containers, plates and paper towels,  toilet paper.
  • Miscellaneous (9-10 pages): Sauces/ Salsa/ Ketchup, 2 canned goods , 2 Frozen goods, salads , dressings , misc. foods, pets, 1-2 misc. house hold items.
What Coupons should I clip?
I tell people in my classes to clip all the coupons that if you could get the item for Free with the coupon and you would purchase it, clip it. I do this because you never know if you will be able to get that item for FREE. Also any family favorites clip them. I clip almost all of my coupons, just in case.

How do I clip the coupons to save the most time?
I get 5 sunday newspapers delivered to my home. I take all 5 of the same insert and line them up side by side on my counter. Then I take the top of each insert and stack them together. Then clip out the coupons all at once. Then I continue with the second page and so on.

Don’t be brand loyal!
being brand loyal is costing you a lot of money. I get coupons for different brands of products. These items will go on sale. Now not all brands of the same product will go on sale at the same time. So say you like JIFF peanut butter and you saved only that brand. Skippy and JIFF are around $3 each. Now Skippy went on sale for 98 cents and there was a coupon for 30 cents off making it 68 cents. In comparison you would buy the skippy. This is why I say don’t be brand loyal.

When Should I use my coupons?
I wait until the item falls into my price point before I use my coupon.
What is a price point?
It’s the point at which I am willing to spend money on any given item. Whether its free or as close to free as it gets. I wait for the sale so it falls into my price point. Then when it falls into my price point I buy as many as I have coupons for. This way I can wait for the item to go on sale again before I have to purchase more.
